CONFERENCES - SIGCOMM
A. Lyman Chapin
Chairman, SIGCOMM
<Lyman@bbn.com>
The Association for Computing Machinery's Special Interest Group
on Data Communication (ACM SIGCOMM) is a professional society of
people throughout the world who share an interest in computer
communication networks. For information about ACM and SIGCOMM,
contact Patrick McCarren at ACM headquarters (Bitnet:
mccarren@acmvm; Internet: mccarren%acmvm.bitnet@cunyvm.cuny.edu).
The annual SIGCOMM conference will be held in San Francisco,
California (USA) during the week of 13-17 September 1993. The
conference provides an international forum for the presentation
and discussion of communication network applications and
technologies, and reports of recent technical work and proposals
in the areas of communication architectures, protocols,
algorithms, and applications. Three all-day tutorials will be
offered on Monday and Tuesday (13-14 September), followed by
the conference itself on Wednesday through Friday (15-17 September).
For further information about the conference, to which
all interested parties are invited (whether SIGCOMM members or
not), send an electronic mail message to sigcomm93@cse.ucsc.edu.
The conference is single-track, and the number of sessions and
papers varies with the number of accepted submissions. In the
past the conference has accepted about 25 papers from well over
100 submissions. Successful submissions typically report results
that are firmly substantiated by experiment, implementation,
simulation, or mathematical analysis. Authors are invited to
submit full papers concerned with both theory and practice.
The areas of interest for the conference include, but are not
limited to, the following: Analysis and design of computer
network architectures and algorithms; innovative results in local
area networks; mixed-media networks; high- speed networks;
routing and addressing; support for mobile hosts; resource
sharing in distributed systems; network management; distributed
operating systems and databases; and protocol specification,
verification,and analysis.
All submissions should be accompanied by a cover letter
containing a list of all of the authors, giving in each case the
author's name, affiliation, telephone number, electronic mail
address, and facsimile telephone number (all information about
authors must be placed on a separate cover page, so that this
information can be removed before the paper is sent to
reviewers). Papers must not exceed 20 double-spaced pages in
length, and should be accompanied by an abstract of 100-150
words. All submitted papers will be reviewed, and will be judged
with respect to quality and relevance. To be considered for the
1993 SIGCOMM Conference, papers must be submitted by February 22,
1993. The authors of accepted papers will be notified by May 7,
and must submit camera-ready copy by June 11.
Submit five paper copies (by postal mail) or one PostScript(tm)
file (by electronic mail) of each paper to the program chairman
before 22 February 1993:
Dr. Deepinder Sidhu
Department of Computer Science
University of Maryland-Baltimore Campus

Fax: +1 410 455 3969
Authors considering submitting a paper for inclusion in the
SIGCOMM '93 conference are encouraged to obtain more information
about the topical areas and characteristics of past selected
papers by sending an electronic mail message to sigcomm93-author-
info@umbc3.umbc.edu. The authors of accepted papers will be
expected to sign an ACM copyright release form. The Proceedings
of the conference, which will contain all selected papers, will
be distributed at the conference and published as a special issue
of the ACM SIGCOMM Computer Communication Review. The program
committee may also select a few papers for possible publication
in the IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking.
Papers submitted by students may be entered in the student-paper
award contest. Among the accepted papers, a maximum of four
outstanding student papers will be awarded full conference
registration and a travel grant of US$500. To be eligible for
this competition, the student must be the sole author of the
paper, or the first author and primary contributor to the paper.
A cover letter must identify the paper as a candidate for this
competition.
Proposals for pre-conference tutorials should be submitted to the
Tutorial Chair by 22 February 1993:
